Winter Fir Tree

Description

This painting records a Peak District fir tree looking up from the ground. I worked from a personal photograph and was motivated to try and show the texture and structure of the tree by observing light and shadow. The colour palette is bold and free brush strokes describe the history and majesty of this mature tree. I am pleased with how the simple background that allows the fir to dominate the composition.
